On April 27, Melissa Button from Cathedral High School visited St. Matthew to speak to the grade 5 students about Aboriginal traditions and culture in Canada. This was a great learning opportunity for the students, as they have been studying this subject in social studies this term.
Melissa shared her knowledge of Aboriginal history, communities, and traditions. The students were able to understand the sacred medicines, and participated in a smudging ceremony. Melissa also reinforced the message of learning about other cultures and to respect diversity and the uniqueness of every individual. We thank her for taking the time to come to our school.
